Aggressive fleeing in Shreveport results in multiple arrests

DISCLAIMER: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Fleeing from the police is a felony, and unfortunately, several individuals learned this the hard way over the weekend.

With one arrest on Friday, and two on Sunday, the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) reminds residents to think twice before attempting to flee. “Fleeing from police is not only reckless but a felony offense that puts lives at risk.”

In a press release, SPD details several arrests made over the weekend, where individuals chose to run away.

On May 30, Romeil Small was arrested after allegedly fleeing from officers. In his attempt to get away, they say he also damaged private property. He is now facing charges of Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Aggravated Criminal Property Damage, and Resisting an Officer.

On June 1, officers say they attempted to stop James Wheatley and Jacoby Lee, who both chose to flee in two separate incidents.

Wheatley led police on a pursuit and was ultimately arrested. Wheatley now faces charges of Flight from an Officer, Hit and Run, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, and his second DWI.

Jacoby Lee attempted to evade a traffic stop, resulting in his arrest. He has been charged with Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation, and No Insurance.

The Shreveport Police Department says it is committed to educating the public about the dangers and consequences of failing to comply with lawful traffic stops. Stating “Fleeing will never end well and can quickly turn a minor issue into a life-changing felony arrest.”

SPD urges the public to comply with all lawful orders from law enforcement.
