Mooresville woman arrested for selling drugs that led to fatal overdose at Indianapolis gym

INDIANAPOLIS — A Mooresville woman has been charged after she reportedly sold drugs that led to a fatal overdose at a gym on the south side of Indianapolis in November 2024.

According to court documents filed in Marion County late last month, 41-year-old Heather Bradford was charged with one count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony.

Bradford was arrested on Friday by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s overdose death task force alongside the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana State Police, according to a news release from IMPD.

On Nov. 8, 2024, officers with IMPD’s southeast district responded to a call of a death investigation at a gym located in the 8700 block of Hardegan Street. When officers arrived, they reportedly located 39-year-old Derek Sink, who was unresponsive. Sink was pronounced dead on scene and the Marion County Coroner’s Office found his cause of death to be a narcotics overdose.

As part of the task force’s investigation, detectives identified Bradford as the suspect who allegedly provided Sink with drugs. Late last month, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Bradford, who was located at a gas station in Mooresville.

“These are extremely challenging and emotionally heavy investigations, but they are vital in our effort to combat the ongoing overdose epidemic,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said. “Each arrest represents months of work, cross-agency coordination, and a deep commitment to seeking justice for families who’ve lost loved ones.”

The release said that as of May 2025, the department has made five arrests for dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death. The department has also made two arrests for reckless homicide related to fatal overdose investigations. This comes after the task force was first established in March 2024.
