DETROIT — Kyle Kirkwood overcame a chaotic race filled with cautions, contact, and constant lead changes to claim victory in Sunday’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, Round 7 of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.

Driving the No. 27 Honda-powered Dallara for Andretti Global, Kirkwood took control in the final quarter of the 100-lap race on the tight, bumpy 1.645-mile street circuit, leading a race-high 48 laps and holding off a hard-charging Santino Ferrucci by 3.59 seconds. The win marks Kirkwood’s second career victory in Detroit and vaults him to third in the championship standings with 209 points.

Ferrucci, who started 21st in the No. 14 Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing, mounted an impressive drive through the field and briefly led on lap 71 before Kirkwood reclaimed the top spot for good on lap 79.

Colton Herta, who started from pole and led the opening 11 laps, completed the podium in third. Will Power, Kyffin Simpson, and Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top six in a race that saw 11 official lead changes among 10 drivers.

The race was slowed by five caution periods totaling 19 laps. Multiple incidents, including a multi-car tangle between Felix Rosenqvist and Louis Foster in Turn 3 on lap 84 and a crash involving Alex Palou and David Malukas in Turn 1 on lap 73, shuffled the running order repeatedly.

Palou, the points leader entering the weekend, was credited with a 25th-place finish after being eliminated in the incident with Malukas. Despite the setback, he remains atop the championship with 311 points, but Pato O’Ward (221) and Kirkwood (209) closed the gap significantly.

Kyffin Simpson recorded the fastest lap of the race at 95.145 mph on lap 54, while Kirkwood turned the quickest lap while leading at 94.856 mph on lap 64.

Rounding out the top 10 were Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, Scott Dixon, and Scott McLaughlin.

The series heads next to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for the Sonsio Grand Prix on June 8.
