Eli Barthel, 23, of Freeport, faces two counts of Class 2 child sexual assault material possession, each punishable by 7 years in prison, and one count of Class 3 child sexual assault material possession, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced the charges on Monday.
“Child exploitation is a horrific crime,” Raoul said. “I am committed to ensuring victims and their families receive the justice they deserve by holding the offenders who commit these crimes accountable – no matter who they are.”
Investigators uncovered evidence of child pornography at Barthel’s residence in the 500 block of North Sierra Drive in Freeport, authorities said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation.
Barthel is being held in the Stephenson County Jail.
