Pedestrian hit, killed by vehicle while walking on Gresham sidewalk

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle that drove onto a Gresham sidewalk early Saturday evening, authorities said.

At around 5:30 p.m., Gresham police officers and emergency crews responded to a report that a person had been hit by a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk near Northeast Pacific Street.

Despite medics attempting lifesaving measures, the pedestrian died at the scene, authorities said.

The vehicle involved had also hit a power pole, though police said no outages were reported.

Officials add the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Northeast 181st Avenue was closed between Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast Wasco street for several hours during the investigation.

Police say they are still working to determine the cause of the crash and whether the driver was impaired.
