The St. Paul’s alum threw seven shutout innings: racking up 11 strikeouts and allowing only four hits in 106 total pitches. Anderson’s performance put him back atop the leaderboard for most strikeouts in all of college baseball.
The southpaw rose to 156 strikeouts this year, which is three more than Tennessee’s Liam Doyle who has 153 Ks. Fellow Tiger Anthony Eyanson’s 132 punchouts has him third in Division I rankings.
Freshman William Schmidt took the mound in the ninth inning and recorded three strikeouts to secure LSU’s 12-0 victory.
At the plate, Ethan Frey stole the show. The junior’s two-run double in the first started LSU’s offensive outing. Frey capped off his night with a triple to center: A Patriots’ outfielder errored fielding the ball, and the Rosepine native crossed home plate for his third run of the game.
The Tiger bats were clicking on all cyclinders against DBU. The Bayou Bengals scored 12 runs on 10 hits, and Chris Stanfield got his first home run of the season with a solo shot to right field in the second.
LSU advanced to its 12th-straight regional final; the longest active streak in the country. The Tigers will face the winner of Dallas Baptist and Little Rock at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The Patriots and Trojans will play in an elimination game at 2 p.m.
