Whirlpool Launches Easy-Access Dishwasher Rack

Whirlpool says its new lower-level replacement rack is the most inclusive on the market.

Whirlpool is introducing a revolving lower-level dishwasher rack that can accommodate consumers with disabilities. 

The company’s new Spin&Load replacement rack was designed in cooperation with the United Spinal Association, which provided prototypes to members, and Corewell Health, which conducted a full usability study on the final design. Whirlpool describes the finished product as “the most inclusive lower-level dishwasher rack design on the market.” 

Conceived by Whirlpool’s AVID team (Awareness of Visible and Invisible Disabilities), the accessory features an easy-to-use, 360-degree spinning design that allows easy access to all areas of the rack, reducing the need for individuals to reach or reposition themselves while loading and unloading dishes. The rack is also easy to install, and fits all 24-inch Whirlpool Corporation dishwashers manufactured after 2018, including those under the Whirlpool, Amana, JennAir, KitchenAid and Maytag brands. 

The rack also features simplified and inclusive packaging, ensuring users can easily open and unbox it with one hand using an accessible pull-tab design. 

“The Spin&Load Rack is a great example of Whirlpool brand’s commitment to human-centered innovation and inclusive design that empowers families to accomplish the chores on their to-do list,” said April Taylor, associate brand manager. “It’s important to us that we invest in creating inclusive and diverse products that empower all of our consumers and make a positive difference in their lives.” 

In support of the launch, Whirlpool is collaborating on its marketing efforts with Tony Award-winning actress Ali Stroker, who was the first wheelchair-required performer to appear on a Broadway stage. 

The Spin&Load Rack will be available beginning in June and will carry a suggested retail price of $150.
