Video: Mountain lion still prowling Bay Area neighborhood, officials say

(KRON) — A mountain lion spotted in a residential area of Fairfield on Monday continues to prowl the neighborhood, the Fairfield Police Department announced Friday.

“We’re no experts, but it would appear our mountain lion friend, affectionately named ‘Tail’ by our Night Team 1 officers, is still in town,” the Fairfield Police Department said. 

Both sightings occurred at night using home security cameras. The mountain lion was first recorded on Orchid Street Monday. A new round of sightings happened Wednesday near the intersection of Clay Bank Road and Airbase Parkway, roughly two miles away from the first sighting.

Security cameras captured the big cat hopping fences between backyards Wednesday. Although the mountain lion is possibly still roaming the neighborhood, it does not pose any immediate threat to public safety, Fairfield PD said.

“Thus far, Tail has exhibited no behaviors that have given cause for concern,” Fairfield PD said. “We’ve been advised that absent aggressive behaviors, Fish and Wildlife will likely leave the animal be. And we extend the same advice to the public. Keep calm and carry on and hopefully Tail will do the same.”

Other recent mountain lion sightings have occurred around the greater Bay Area. On May, 27, an Aptos resident took a photo of a mountain lion exploring their garden.
