Thursday almanac: Still below normal but the warmest weather in 12 days

Temperatures reached 70 degrees for the first time in 12 days Thursday afternoon, a welcomed sight in what’s been an unusually cool stretch for late May.

Even the lakefront recorded a 66 degree high, far warmer than anything observed there in nearly two weeks.

We saw a little more than half the amount of typical sunshine following a cloudy start to the day.

Grass and tree pollen continue at moderate levels while the mold is low. The pollen numbers could be far worse at this time of year.

Late afternoon temperatures across the United States

Real summer heat is confined to the Southwest and southern Texas and Florida.

Overall, the lower 48 is about 0.5-degrees below normal.
