NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies.

Animal Cruelty

DONALDSON – State troopers are investigating after a dog was found dead along a walking trail in Frailey Township last weekend.

Troopers from the Schuylkill Haven barracks were called to the area of Fountain Road in Frailey Township around 1:30pm Sunday.

There, a dog was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at Schuylkill Haven at 570-754-4600.

class="wp-block-heading">Reckless Endangerment

ASHLAND – An Ashland man is in Schuylkill County Prison on firearms and reckless endangerment charges after a reported shots fired incident in the borough.

Matthew Mark Mabus, 33, of Walnut Street, was arrested and arraigned on May 23.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Ashland Police Chief Gerard Daley, officers were called to the area of 5th and Walnut for a report of shots fired.

When police arrived, Mabus immediately put his hands in the air. He said he hard shots down the street. Down the street, his girlfriend did the same and said she had her gun earlier at 5th and Walnut, but it was now in her house.

A neighbor said she saw both Mabus and his girlfriend and watched Mabus fire a pistol four times.

Mabus, police said, then said he and his girlfriend engaged in an argument and he tried to take the gun off her when it accidentally fired.

Four shells were found in the area of the shots fired and a gun inside the home had nine bullets remaining in a 12-round magazine.

Mabus was arrested and arraigned on felony possession of a firearm prohibited, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, false reports, and tampering with evidence charges.

He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $75,000 bail and awaiting a preliminary hearing set for June 18.

Fleeing

FRACKVILLE – A Frackville man is facing charges after police said he led officers on a chase riding an ATV.

Logan Payne, 20, of West Pine Street, was charged May 23 by Frackville Police.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Frackville Police Patrolman Cory Rainis, officers spotted an ATV with two people aboard driving near North Lehigh Avenue and East Spring Street in the borough around 4pm May 14.

The ATV fled when they noticed police. Payne was later identified as the driver and drove the wrong way on North Cherry Street and in the area of Sisters Early Learning Center, which was dismissing at the time.

The ATV ran several stop signs in the chase and evaded law enforcement via an old railroad bed.

Payne is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
