Pleasant Grove baseball heading to state; 13-1 victory over Seminole

FRISCO, TX (KTAL/KMSS) – On Friday, the Pleasant Grove Hawks secured its spot in the state title game in Round Rock.

After a 9-0 victory on Thursday over Seminole, the Hawks picked things up where they left them. Jace Elrod got the offense going with an RBI single and Pleasant Grove kept adding runs throughout the game.

With a final score of 13-1, Pleasant Grove secured its spot in the UIL 4A-DI state title on Friday, June 6 in Round Rock and celebrated with a jump in the pool in right field.

“I can’t even describe the feeling, but I’m just so thankful for this team, these coaches, this community,” senior Jarret Halter said. “I mean, it wouldn’t be possible without them, and I’m just, like I said, I can’t explain the emotion. I’m just overfilled with joy right now.”

Now just one game stands between the Hawks and a state trophy.

“Excited, excited for our team, excited for our community, excited for our school,” head coach Riley Fincher said. “Get a chance to play one more week with this team.  This group is just we’re a family. They care about each other.  You see that when guys succeed on the field, you see when something the other way they’re picking each other up.  They’re excited for each other. This group is special.”

Pleasant Grove will play the winner over Calallen and China Springs. Calallen won the first game of the semi-state series on Friday, 9-7. The two teams will play on Saturday, May 30, to decide who is sent to state.
