BATON ROUGE – Weather delayed No. 6 LSU’s matchup with Little Rock five hours and 36 minutes, but that didn’t affect the Tigers’ performance. Jay Johnson’s team topped Little Rock 7-0 to advance to the winner’s bracket of the Baton Rouge Regional.
While former St. Paul’s standout Kade Anderson has been the Tigers’ ace all season, starting most Friday night contests, Johnson decided to start Anthony Eyanson in LSU’s first NCAA Tournament game. And he delivered. The junior right-hander tossed 7 and 2/3 innings, only gave up five hits and struck out seven.
Daniel Dickinson’s two home runs gave the Tigers some serious momentum. His solo shot in the fifth extended the lead to 3-0, and his second two-run homer in the sixth put LSU up 6-0. Which became an insurmountable deficit for the Trojans.
LSU will play the winner of Dallas Baptist/Rhode Island winner on Saturday.
