Public law enforcement reporting systems indicate Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the intersection of Massachusetts and Parker Avenues around 2:55 p.m. to investigate a personal injury crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a train and car that had been involved in a crash.
Officers at the scene told FOX59/CBS4 that the male driver of the passenger car was transported from the scene to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash.
During their investigation, police determined the passenger car’s driver was crossing train tracks along Massachusetts Avenue before the crash happened. Police reported that it is currently unclear if the motorist in the passenger car drove around the rail arm while trying to cross the tracks.
Investigators believe the motorist’s blue Ford Escape was dragged 400-500 feet during the crash with the train.
Around 3:30 p.m., IMPD indicated that traffic in the area would be impacted by the crash for 1-3 more hours.
