ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The local nonprofit and the Abilene Zoo Conservation Committee are attempting to clean up a park in Abilene.

Trash has been piling up in around the lake, but now, the community is stepping in to make a difference.

The Abilene Zoo Conservation Committee is dedicated to global conservation and wildlife preservation and often partners with local groups to help natural habitats.

Co-Chair Ana Davis says that much of the trash accumulates because of high winds and ends up in the lake, near homes, and around habitats for native birds and reptiles. She also shared that it can be detrimental for local wildlife.

“It can be detrimental for local wildlife to have trash in the native homes and habitats. We’ll try to keep them as clean and preserved as possible,” Davis said.

The cleanup will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Grover Nelson Park at Tittle Lake.
