Suspected DUI driver crashes into VTA bus in Gilroy, injures 2 minors

(KRON) — Two children sustained moderate injuries after a suspected DUI driver crashed into a VTA bus in Gilroy on Wednesday night, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Police responded at 7 p.m. to the collision at Monterey and Howson streets. Investigating officers said a VTA bus was idling and picking up passengers when a vehicle being driven by Angel Pacheco, 24, of Gilroy, careened into it.

Pacheco attempted to flee on foot, but bystanders were able to stop and detain him, according to authorities.

Two bus passengers, who Gilroy PD said were minors, were hospitalized for moderate injuries. Pacheco was treated for injuries before being booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
