Miles Perret celebrates 25-years of service with Birthday Bash, Games of Acadiana

LAFAYETTE, La. – (KLFY) – Twenty-five years ago, a non-profit organization was created by a family wanting to honor and remember a loved one who died of cancer. Today, Miles Perret is still going strong.

“We’re so incredibly blessed to be a part of the Acadiana community for the past twenty-five years,” says Sherry Hernadez with Miles Perret.

They also know none of this would have been possible without the support they received from the community. They are motivated as ever to continue their mission.

“We are able to provide programs and services to patients. One-hundred percent free of charge, so whether it’s medical supplies, nutrition supplements, resources and information, we help out where we can,” says Hernandez.

The number of families they have helped continues to grow. “Since we opened our doors, we have helped over 27,000 families that have come through in need of services,” adds Hernandez.

With the non-profit turning twenty-five, a special celebration is planned. “We’re still doing our 2-week Games of Acadiana scavenger hunt this year, but in celebration of 25 years, we are hosting what we’re calling our Birthday Bash,” explains Hernandez.

This event, being held from 10am to 2pm Saturday, May 31st, will feature an opening ceremony, a cancer-survivor walk, and plenty of fun for the family, including life-sized obstacle courses, inflatable mini-golf, and a monster spider fun jump. This will be all free of charge to the public.

“Historically, we’ve been able to raise all the funding ahead of time through our corporate sponsors and partners and have been able to keep the event free to the community,” says Hernandez.

This event will also kick off Games of Acadiana, which is Miles Perret’s oldest and most well-known fundraiser. A few years ago, it transitioned from a one-day event to a two-week virtual scavenger hunt. This gives all of Acadiana the chance to participate in the fun.

“You just download the free app called Goose-Chase and all of the mission will be available come May 30th,” says Hernandez.

The virtual scavenger hunt runs from May 30th through June 14th. People will be able to complete missions and earn points towards winning prizes. Some 50 prizes will be given away with a grand prize of 10,000 up for grabs!
