BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University plans to hold in-state undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees flat for the next two academic years, university officials announced Thursday.
The proposal, aimed at enhancing college affordability and access for Indiana residents, will be presented at a public forum hosted by the IU Board of Trustees at 12:15 p.m. June 12 at Henke Hall of Champions on the Bloomington campus.
While the proposed freeze applies to in-state undergraduates, the university is also recommending up to a 2% increase in tuition for graduate programs. Some health and medical programs may be exempt from the increase. University leaders said the modest rise would help meet market demands and ensure continued delivery of high-quality graduate education.
The recommendation aligns with the IU 2030 strategic plan, which emphasizes student success and cost containment. Beginning in fiscal year 2024, the university cut the number of academic fees by 50%, saving students a collective $14.5 million annually. Fundraising in 2024 also generated a 23% increase in support for student access and affordability initiatives.
Earlier this year, IU Bloomington announced a stipend increase for graduate students with part-time teaching or research appointments, effective July 1.
Students and the public may submit comments on the proposed tuition and fee schedule by 5 p.m. EST Tuesday, June 10. Emails can be sent to tuition@iu.edu or letters may be mailed to the Office of the Board of Trustees, 107 S. Indiana Ave., Bloomington, IN 47501.
