Senate Bill SB0008 says that guns would need to be kept in a secure, locked container if a minor, at-risk person, or someone who can’t have a gun were to otherwise be able to access them. The bill also creates new consequences for lost or stolen guns. If a person fails to report a lost or stolen gun within 48 hours, rather than 72 hours, two or more times, state police could revoke their Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID).
If signed, the law would go into effect next year.
