Former Tigard police officer pleads guilty to lying during investigation

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Tigard police officer resigned from his post and was barred from becoming a police officer again in Oregon after pleading guilty to official misconduct.

The now former Tigard police officer, Jacob Teeney, will surrender his police certification with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training after it was determined he lied during the course of his official duties.

Teeney lied about how he accessed text messages in an investigation, something discovered by a lawyer preparing for trial who noticed discrepancies between his police report and body-cam footage.

After the Tigard Police Department was notified about the attorney’s allegation in November of last year, the department placed Teeney on paid administrative leave the same day.

To ensure an impartial investigation, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office investigated the incident, which was completed in February. Teeny made his initial court appearance earlier this month before pleading guilty to one misdemeanor charge on Thursday.

Teeny was first hired by the Tigard Police Department in 2021. As a result of the charge, all other reports and investigations conducted by Teeny during his tenure with Tigard police are being reviewed by both the police department and the Washington County DA’s Office to ensure the facts can be independently supported, officials said.

The internal review is expected to be completed in the coming weeks and will be submitted to DPSST.
