Suburban physician who defrauded insurance companies, Medicaid to be sentenced

Dr. Mona Ghosh is facing up to 20 years in prison for federal health care fraud. Sentencing is expected to take two days at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago.

Ghosh was a licensed physician and the owner of Progressive Women’s Healthcare in Hoffman Estates, which is now closed.

Last year, Ghosh plead guilty to billing Medicaid and private insurance companies for services that never happened or were considered medically unnecessary.

The fraudulent claims include services at office visits and telehealth visits. Ghosh admitted in a plea deal to being accountable for more than $1.5 million in reimbursements. 

Two witnesses have taken the stand so far. They spoke about their experiences with Dr. Ghosh and how she broke their trust.

They said she lied in patient records about what they discussed in appointments and pushed them to get procedures they didn’t really need.

More witnesses are expected to take the stand Wednesday. Ghosh has been in the room listening to these testimonies.
