Snyder firefighter dies after truck overturns in rain on US-180

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Snyder man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening on U.S. Highway 180 in Scurry County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m., approximately 5 miles west of Snyder. According to Texas DPS, Roy Edward Bolen Jr., 54, was driving a white 2001 Ford F-250 westbound when he lost control of the vehicle in rainy conditions.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Bolen was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet road conditions. The vehicle veered into the south ditch, skidded, and overturned.

Bolen, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident.

Bolen was a member of the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department, dedicating nine years to the safety and well-being of the community.

“During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters. Support services and peer counselors are available for all personnel. Further information regarding memorial services and honors will be provided as details are finalized,” the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department shared. “Please keep Firefighter Bolen and their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
