Man arrested, accused of hitting police vehicles in St. Claude area

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a use of force incident that happened in the St. Claude neighborhood.

Around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, officers responded to the scene of a hit-and-run.

Responding officers reported as they approached the scene, the suspect allegedly accelerated toward officers striking three units.

In an effort to stop the suspect, NOPD officers reported firing their weapons.

There were no injuries reported.

The incident led to a brief stand-off in the 1400 block of Gallier Street but ended with the man’s arrest. He was taken to a hospital by EMS for injuries sustained by broken glass.

NOPD Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team officers say they are investigating the incident.
