Beshear says special session to address disaster funding is likely

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- A special session of the Kentucky Legislature is likely to be called to address disaster funding, according to Governor Andy Beshear.

Beshear told the Lexington Herald Leader that the state is almost guaranteed to reach the $100 million cap on emergency funding, which the legislature set at the beginning of 2024. The funding amount was intended to cover the state through the end of this year.

If a special session is not called, legislators wouldn’t meet until January of 2026. Beshear told the Herald Leader that he hasn’t addressed the issue with state leaders, but believes they will do what is needed to make the funding available.
