Two days prior to the shooting, three boys were “driving around San Mateo pulling pranks on classmates from Hillsdale High School,” prosecutors wrote. For one prank, the students went to the girl’s home on Annapolis Drive and “spread oil all over the porch,” according to the DA’s office.
On Saturday, just after midnight, the three boys returned and reportedly threw eggs at the home. As the boys fled in their SUV, Miceli allegedly fired two rounds at the vehicle. One of the bullets struck the vehicle’s front passenger quarter panel, according to the DA’s office.
Responding officers stopped the SUV. A short time after, Miceli approached the police and “talked about how his daughter had been the victim of constant bullying at the high school and how angry he was having to spend time cleaning oil off the porch,” the DA’s office wrote.
Miceli told officers that he was aiming at the tires of the SUV and after the shooting he threw the handgun into Water Dog Lake, the DA’s office wrote.
A search warrant served at Miceli’s home uncovered an illegal automatic rifle and “several types of ammunition,” according to prosecutors.
Miceli was charged with:
- Three counts of assault with a firearm
- Shooting at an occupied motor vehicle
- Unlawful assault weapon/.50 Browning machine gun rifle activity
- Possession of an assault weapon
A preliminary hearing was set for June 9 following Tuesday’s arraignment. Bail was set at $25,000 and Miceli was ordered to have no contact with the three boys.
