Reimagine Pleasant Street construction to be complete within the next few months

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — It’s been in the works for a few years, and now Noblesville’s Reimagine Pleasant Street project is well underway.

After June 2, drivers can expect some closures here at State Road 32 and Hague Road as a new roundabout begins construction.

After nearly two years of road work, the roundabout construction will be one of the last major closures for the corridor.

“Back in the late 80s, we started talking about a new east-to-west connector in the city of Noblesville,” said Mayor Chris Jensen.

Right now, for drivers to get from State Road 32 to State Road 37, they have to go through the heart of downtown Noblesville, causing some congestion.

“This will have a nearly 30% reduction in downtown traffic with the opening of this road, allowing for it to be more accessible by car, by bike, by foot, and support those downtown restaurants or small businesses,” said Jensen.

Along with bypassing downtown, the city said the project is needed due to the growing community.

“We don’t just take today’s traffic into account, but we look 20 years out at where the growth can happen, and then we put it into the traffic model to make sure that we can handle what we are projected to have,” said Alispon Krupski, an engineer on the project.

Construction began on phase 1 in 2023, which is now open and well used by people traveling through.

“After the section from like River Road to 10th Street opened up, I did start taking that,” said Ellie Kiihne.

Now, phase 2 between 13th and 16th streets, as well as phase 3, are underway simultaneously. The bridge over Cicero Creek will be owned and maintained by the county, as well as the White River bridge, which is already completed.

“We have also received funding from the Indianapolis MPO, so they gave us $14.5 million towards this corridor, which is a huge help when you’re looking at a $125 million project,” said Krupski.

While these closures may be a hassle for drivers commuting through, folks said there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“It is very frustrating while it’s going on, but at the same time, it will be beneficial in the long run. It’s just growing pains that you have to get through,” said Kiinhe.

All sections of the thoroughfare will be completed and opened by the end of this year.
