PHOTOS: Catalytic converter thief caught on camera at Reynolds School District, still at large

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – New details have come to light in the case of several catalytic converters that went missing from the Reynolds School District.

School leaders have released photos of the suspect — along with the vehicle they believe the suspect was using — after

six buses had their catalytic converters stolen over Memorial Day weekend.

Photos show a white ‘90s Ford passenger van and a suspect wearing dark clothing while carrying a black and red Milwaukie backpack.

District maintenance workers discovered the buses with missing catalytic converters early Tuesday morning. The devices, which contain precious metals, clean vehicle emissions and are a common target of thieves.

The materials stolen in this theft resulted in $27,000 worth of parts. An investigation revealed a hole in the fence in the back area.

The school district has security cameras, a locked gate and fencing. However, officials say the district had to let go of the private security that patrolled the area due to budget cuts.
