CHICAGO (WGN) —  Police are searching for answers on Wednesday morning after an overnight rolling shootout ended in a crash on the city’s Northwest Side.

According to police, the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 7700 block of West Belmont Avenue in Dunning.

The incident began as the victim, a 23-year-old man, was driving east along Belmont and he was involved in what police described as a “road incident” with another driver who was traveling in the same direction in a white sedan.

Amid the incident, officers said the driver of the white sedan allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire on the victim. The victim, who officers said was a CCL holder, then returned fire.

The shootout eventually came to an end when the driver of the White sedan crashed into a building before fleeing the scene.

According to police, no injuries were reported and the building involved in the crash suffered damage, though the extent is unclear.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident and an investigation is now underway.

Anyone with information on the shootout is asked to contact CPD Area Five Detectives at 312-746-6554 or dial 911.
