DISCLAIMER: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A devastating crash in Shreveport has changed the life of one resident, according to the Shreveport Police.

On May 24, 2025, just after 11:00 p.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to a major traffic collision at the intersection of Interstate 49 and Hollywood Avenue.

According to witnesses, a green vehicle ran a red light and struck a black Toyota 4Runner.

Officers arrived on the scene and identified the driver of the green vehicle as Richard Roberson, who they say had a strong odor of alcohol.

Attempts to administer standard field sobriety tests were made, but Roberson was uncooperative and refused to follow officers’ directions. He was arrested at the scene.

The occupant of the Toyota 4Runner sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to a press release from the Shreveport Police Department (SPD), the victim is alive but faces a long road to recovery.

Roberson has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
  • Felony Vehicular Negligent Injury
  • No Proof of Insurance
  • Reckless Operation of a Vehicle
  • Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Register a Vehicle

In a released statement, SPD says, “This incident serves as another tragic reminder that drinking and driving can have devastating and potentially deadly consequences.”
