ICE agents showing up at immigration court, Bay Area lawyers allege

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Four ICE arrests have been made in the vicinity of the San Francisco Immigration Court in the past week, according to San Francisco lawyers.

ICE agents have been reportedly waiting in the hallways and waiting rooms in immigration court rooms.

Bay Area immigration lawyers say their migrant clients have been afraid to show up to their asylum court hearings because of fear of deportation.

Immigration lawyers say this uncertainty is “dangerous” for asylum cases because if their clients don’t show up to their court date, their case can be thrown out and they may never get legal status in the U.S.

“I’m not going to let an unruly leader who is quite frankly breaking the law left and right deter me as a practicing attorney from doing my law… what I swore to the state bar of California,” said attorney Gabriel Espinosa-Ramos.
