Anthony Berrera, 29, faces charges that include possessing methamphetamine and cocaine with the intent to distribute after allegedly bringing the drugs from Southern California into Oregon, the U.S. Department of Justice said.
Barrera rented a vehicle, traveled to California to pick up large quantities of drugs with the intention of selling and distributing them in Oregon, then headed back to his home state, investigators said.
“On May 24, 2025, officers located Barrera driving the rental vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 and followed him to a rest area near Roseburg, Oregon, where Barrera was arrested without incident,” the U.S. DOJ said in a press release. “Agents executed a federal search warrant on the rental vehicle and seized 270 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of cocaine, which were concealed in the backseat and cargo area of the vehicle. Later the same day, investigators executed a federal search warrant on Barrera’s residence where they seized two firearms hidden under the floor of a closet.”
Barrera appeared in a federal court in Portland on Tuesday. A U.S. Magistrate Judge ordered that he be detained pending further court proceedings.
The Multnomah County Dangerous Drug Team and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the case as part of a multi-agency effort for large drug trafficking investigations in Oregon and Idaho.
