But this WGNO highlight of his throw to LSU commit Jabari Mack during the Wildcats’ spring game against Karr went viral, totaling just under 9 million views.
“It was crazy, coaches hitting me up, the video going crazy and family going crazy,” Fields said. “Everybody was congratulating me. Many coaches and agents have reached out just seeing the potential. That was a life-changing moment for sure.”
“It was unbelievable. Well-deserved and it was a great play,” Destrehan head coach Marcus Scott said.
While the throw received a massive amount of attention, Fields says it was just another day at the office.
“That’s something me and Jabari do, something we train for and expect out of each other.”
Since his viral moment, Fields has received multiple offers and countless Power Four camp invites, including LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama. The next step is proving it to those coaches in person.
“Coaches liked my film and want to see me throw live, so I think it will lead to great opportunities,” Fields said.
The Destrehan QB feels the clip proves he has just scratched the surface of what he can be.
“That play shows what I am capable of. It’s something people have been able to see. We’re gonna be dangerous this year,” Fields said.
Fields has made sure not to let the attention get to his head and is ready to help the Wildcats try and win a state title this year.
“I have a great family, teammates, and coaches who keep me grounded. At Destrehan, we just put that work in, that’s the mentality, and one video doesn’t change that.”
