According to Chicago police, Kayson Flowers was found unresponsive inside a residence in the 200 block of West 106th Street on April 26.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Kayla Flowers, the baby’s mother, dropped Kayson off at his father’s home on April 19. The father returned the baby to Kayla on April 28, and told her Kayson was asleep inside a stroller.
Kayla quickly realized the infant was unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Medical Examiner determined Kayson died from child abuse and his death was ruled a homicide.
Detectives confirmed Kayson had been dead for six to eight hours before his mother picked him up. The Sun-Times reports his arms and legs were covered in bruises.
The case is under investigation.
Kayla is calling for justice for her son.
A vigil was held Tuesday evening at Roseland Christian Ministries, who is offering a $5,000 reward to help find the person responsible for Kayson’s death.
