San Francisco police responded to a report of an assault near Bayshore Boulevard and Cortland Avenue at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday. Arriving officers located a man suffering from a stab wound.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Police obtained a description of the suspect in their investigation. Officers detained a suspect who matched the description and was later identified as 51-year-old Daniel Garcia.
Garcia was arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
Muni posted on its social media that the transportation company is willing to assist SFPD and the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office in arresting and prosecuting the assailant.
“Yesterday’s senseless act of violence is tragic, and our hearts are with the victim and their loved ones. Criminal activity of any kind will never be tolerated on Muni & we are committed to keeping the safety of our riders & staff as our top priority,” Muni posted on its social media.
