Dixon announces army veteran as new police chief

DIXON, Ill. (WTVO) — Dixon has announced its new police chief after a months-long search.

The town decided to promote within its own department by selecting an army veteran and active police sergeant, Ryan Bivins.

Bivins served 10 years in the US Army, including a tour in Afghanistan. He joined Dixon’s police force in 2009.

Bivins has been active in preventing crime by launching several programs to help officers and leading the department’s crisis prevention team.

His programs are known for expanding youth engagement, creating new strategies for policing and being transparent with the community.

Bivins will be sworn in at a ceremony on June 2nd.
