Search underway for missing woman at Noccalula Falls

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — A search for a missing woman continues in the Black Creek gorge area of Noccalula Falls Monday morning.

First responders initially received a call for a missing 51-year-old around 8 p.m. Sunday. The woman, currently unidentified, was last seen by family on a raft in Black Creek. Responders searched until 1:30 a.m. when heavy rain and thunderstorms forced them to stop.

Search efforts resumed around 6:00 a.m.

Personnel with Gadsden Fire Department, Gadsden Police Department, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA, Gadsden-Etowah County EMA, and the Community Emergency Response Team are involved in the search.

Noccalula Falls Park campground remains open, but visitors are asked to avoid the Gorge Trail area.
