20K gallons of water carried from nearby boat ramp to battle Mount Vernon fire

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Four fire departments worked together to put out a massive fire in Mount Vernon that started just after midnight on Sunday, using a nearby lake to fill water tanks.

According to the Mount Vernon Fire Department (MVFD), crews were dispatched to an area off Barnett Road when a caller said they had heard a loud boom but only saw smoke nearby.

Within minutes, that had changed, and crews asked three other departments and various tankers for help.

A Mount Vernon fire engine was reportedly sent to the Lake Linville Marina, less than two miles away from the raging fire, to use the lake as a fill site.

Crews shuttled about 20,000 gallons of water from the boat ramp to extinguish the fire, according to the MVFD.

People in the area reportedly told firefighters that everyone who lived inside was safe, and no injuries were reported.

Mount Vernon police and Jackson Energy helped crews at the scene of the fire.
