Penn State men’s lacrosse falls short of championship appearance

(WHTM) — Penn State men’s lacrosse fell short of a national championship on Saturday in a crushing loss against No. 1 seed Cornell in the NCAA Championships semifinals.

The No. 7-ranked Nittany Lions lost 9 – 11 against Cornell at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Nittany Lions led 5-4 heading into halftime, but a miraculous six-goal performance by Cornell in the third period secured them a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth, according to NCAA.com.

Despite a hard-fought comeback, the Nittany Lions fell short of a National Championship appearance.

Attackman Liam Matthews led the Nittany Lions with four goals in Penn State’s third semifinal appearance.

Cornell will advance to the men’s championship, where it will face the winner of Maryland and Syracuse on May 26.
