Man accused of shooting at Port Allen High School football game found guilty

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A man accused of shooting, killing a 16-year-old at a high school football game in West Baton Rouge was found guilty by a jury on Friday.

Jarrettin Jackson II, 19, was found guilty of killing Ja’Kobe Queen and also found guilty of injuring Port Allen resident Brasia Davis, 28. Jackson’s charges are manslaughter, aggravated battery, possession of a machine gun, carrying a firearm on school property and obstruction of justice.

On Sept. 1, 2023, Jackson fired multiple shots during halftime at a Port Allen High School football game. Queen was struck by two of the bullets, according to West Baton Rouge District Attorney Tony Clayton.

In a release from Clayton, video evidence assisted in the capture of Jackson.

A witness said a fight broke out between two subjects. After a few punches were thrown, Jackson fired the shots.

“This was a horrifying, unnecessary killing of a young man and wounding of an innocent bystander. The fact that it was in a crowd at a high school football game makes it even more appalling,” said District Attorney Tony Clayton. “We have a message for these wanna be gang members: We will track you down, we will prosecute, and we will pursue the harshest sentence allowed. We will not tolerate this in our communities.”
