BOYD COUNTY, KY (WOWK) – Two people have died after an overnight house fire in Ashland. Officials say one of the victims is a child.
According to Boyd County Dispatch, the fire broke out at the 300 block of Ringo Street around 3 a.m. Friday. Asland Fire Chief Stephen Alley says the fire was already intense when crews reached the scene.
A third person in the home was able to escape to the roof of the building, where they were rescued by firefighters. However, the blaze continued to intensify quickly, and crews were not able to reach the two victims who died in the fire.
“A very tough incident and scene,” said Alley. “There were a lot of difficulties that we encountered. That fire was heavily progressed and it created a barrier to being able to get inside there rather quickly.”
Officials say one firefighter did sustain a minor injury responding to the blaze and was treated at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, and the identities of the victims have not been released.
