A new way to get around downtown has launched, growing the fleet of pedicabs offered this season.

Scott Ehrisman has started Downtown Rickshaw, using an electric trike that accommodates two passengers.

He discovered the concept in Colorado, and “I thought it would be a great way to go out and experiment,” he said. “I’ve been having people call and email me about booking rides.”

The service is available for trips around downtown, which cost $5 each. He’s also open to transporting people from nearby neighborhoods and even has given a ride out to Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue. The service is available as an hourly rental for tours, date nights or even a ride on the city’s recreation trail.

“Every time I run into people, they take cards,” Ehrisman said.  “Business travelers downtown know it right away. … A guy from Chicago walked straight up and asked for a ride from Fernson to the Canopy where he was staying and said he rides them in Chicago all the time.”

He typically is out Friday and Saturday but might expand to Thursday and Sunday, as well as by appointment.

“I recommend calling me in advance and tell me what you’re thinking, and I can do a pickup,” he said. “I’ve been stopping by the parking ramps, they’ve been good, and I’ve gotten quite a few rides just by going out in front of the Holiday Inn.”

Sioux Falls Pedicabs also will return downtown this season. Terry Grateful Liggins bought the business in 2023 and began operating it last year. The two cabs are manually powered and launch this weekend with the Levitt at the Falls season.

The plan is to support a variety of special events, plus offer private bookings and downtown tours. For bookings, call 605-838-7898.

“Most of our activity was just Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight and sometimes on Thursdays same time,” Liggins said. “We plan to really extend into the Saturday brunch and shopping crowd this year as well and run a shift from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.”
