Over 18 million pounds of hay saved from fire in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Over 18 million pounds of hay were saved after a rancher and Fresno Fire worked together to extinguish a fire in Fresno County.

Crews say a 1,000-ton haystack caught fire early Thursday morning near Fresno Coalinga Road and I-5, in the Fresno County countryside just north of Coalinga.

While the stack that burnt was enough to feed about 150 cows for a year, crews say with the help of the property owner, they were able to salvage over 9,000 tons (18 million pounds) of remaining hay.
