VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) –Scott Keith Broussard was sentenced to life in prison without benefit of parole for two counts of first degree rape alongside other sex crimes on May 20, according to Don Landry, 15th Judicial District Attorney.

The additional sentences Broussard was given were 25 years at hard labor for molestation of a juvenile, 25 years for sexual battery, 20 years for intimidating a witness, 15 years for attempted second degree rape, ten years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and five years for attempted indecent behavior with a juvenile. All the sentences are to run consecutive to each other, Landry said.

Broussard had been convicted by a Vermilion Parish jury on December 4, 2024, had a prior
conviction for Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile in 2010, and was a Registered Sex Offender. Broussard was arrested by Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies shortly after the investigation was completed in September 2023.

That jury heard evidence in December 2024 from a Gueydan High School counselor who made the initial report to law enforcement in August of 2023 and the evidence showed that the victim’s stepfather had molested the victim and others over a seven-year period. Detective Lon Hargrave testified about his investigation of the complaints, and two juvenile victims also testified, as well as their mother.

District Attorney Don Landry noted that in cases like this, with victims hesitant to report due to death threats or other threats, the victims’ courage led to justice in the case, and the removal of a dangerous sex offender from the community.

“We are very satisfied with the sentences in this case, where this defendant will now spend the rest of his life in prison for what he did to these children,” Landry said.
