Popular wireless company set to take over operations for Lumen’s CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber customers

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – AT&T struck a deal to take over operations for CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber in several U.S. states, including Oregon.

For $5.75 billion, the telecommunications company acquired most of Lumen’s fiber internet business. Lumen operates CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber in 11 states and serves more than 1 million customers.

The agreement will need regulatory approval, but once it does, Lumen customers will slowly be transferred over to AT&T operations.

“We’re leading the race to connect more Americans with fiber, the best broadband connectivity technology available,” AT&T CEO John Stankey said. “This deal with Lumen represents a significant investment in U.S. connectivity infrastructure that will create jobs and spur economic activity in numerous regions and major metro areas across 11 states.”

Stankey said AT&T hopes to double its availability by the end of 2030.
