According to the Pineville Police Department, officers responded to the scene around 9:09 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found a female victim lying in the roadway. She was conscious and alert and told police she had been attempting to cross Hwy 28 East to reach a nearby bus stop when she was struck. The woman was unable to provide a description of the vehicle.
Investigators determined the vehicle fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Pineville Police Department at 318-442-6603.
In a statement, the department reminded pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and sidewalks when available and encouraged those walking at night to wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.
