PennDOT says the new plates are available for standard passenger and truck vehicles. Personalized plates are also available, and if you already have a personalized plate, you can receive a new plate in our new style for free.
In order to replace a standard or existing personalized plate, PennDOT says you must:
- Fill out the application for a new style registration plate, form MV-44LB
- Follow the instructions on the form:
- Check the box for the new Liberty Bell plate.
- Complete your information as listed on your current registration card.
- If you are replacing a personalized plate:
- Enter your configuration exactly (including dashes or spaces).
- Attach a photo of your current plate.
- Mail the form to the address below.
If you’re replacing a standard plate, include your $13 replacement fee in a check or money order in the envelope. If you’re replacing a personalized plate, there is no cost and no need to include cash or check, per PennDOT.
PennDOT adds that if you currently have a specialty plate (military, special fund, or organization plate), switching to the new plate will replace it with a standard plate.
