ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — New footage of a crash in southern Utah shows the moment that two pedestrians were hit by a car while on the sidewalk last Tuesday.

The footage — shared by the local traffic camera company CollisionCam — shows a white van that stopped to take a left turn onto Mall Drive. A white SUV stopped to let the van make the turn, but police said the driver did not yield to oncoming traffic.

A white sedan in another oncoming lane kept driving, and the footage shows the van colliding with that sedan. After the collision, the van’s front bumper was torn off, and the sedan drove up onto the sidewalk, hitting the two pedestrians.

Tiffany Mitchell with the St. George Police Department confirmed with ABC4.com that one of the pedestrians — a 92-year-old woman — has since died.

A GoFundMe* has been set up to help raise money for her funeral costs, and to support the recovery of her son, who was walking with her. Through the online fundraiser, family members have identified the pedestrians as Darin and his mother.

The description of the fundraiser says Darin broke his neck and “had to have his scalp repaired.” The fundraiser says the 92-year-old woman “broke both of her legs, 8 ribs, and had several other broken bones,” and succumbed to her injuries.

“His mother was like his best friend,” the fundraiser says of Darin. “They had been through so much of life together, and this is going to be the hardest time he has ever had to endure.”

Officials have not released any additional information about the crash.
