Chicago police said the incident unfolded just after 1:15 a.m. in the 800 block of South Loomis Street.
According to police, the victim, a 49-year-old man, was walking in the area when a car approached and someone inside opened fire.
Following the shooting, the gunman fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to his left calf and was taken to the hospital in good condition. Officers said he was not able to provide any additional details about the incident.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and an investigation is now underway.
