The Department of Justice announced that Leslie Henry Wilson, 53, was sentenced to one year in federal prison. She was also sentenced to serve three years of supervised release after her prison term and ordered to pay $598,774.51 in restitution.
According to the DOJ, Wilson owned two health care businesses in the Baton Rouge area, Personal Touch Healthcare Services, LLC and Personal Touch Respite Center, LLC, and was responsible for managing and overseeing payroll and taxes. Officials said Wilson failed to pay over $500,00 to the IRS from January 2019 and December 2023.
The DOJ specifies that Wilson withheld hundreds of thousands of dollars in payroll taxes from employees, keeping the money for herself instead of paying the IRS. Investigators also found she failed to pay the employer portion of the FICA taxes, which fund Social Security and Medicare.
