SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly stabbed a man in the knee and drove into an apartment building as she attempted to flee, according to arrest documents.

Elymer Cristina Linarez Cuello, 33, was arrested in Salt Lake City on May 20 after police were dispatched on a welfare check. According to the filed affidavit, the police determined it was a domestic disturbance, and Cuello called and told police that she was a victim of domestic violence.

The man who had been stabbed — who was referred to as “the actual victim” in arrest documents — said that Cuello was drinking alcohol in her car in the parking lot of the apartment complex. He told her to come inside so she wouldn’t get in trouble with the authorities, according to the officer who responded to the call.

Cuello reportedly pulled a knife out from underneath the driver’s seat and stabbed the victim in the knee, according to the affidavit. The victim bit Cuello on the back “out of instinct” and managed to get the knife away from her before going back into the apartment.

Cuello allegedly attempted to flee the scene in her car, and she reportedly crashed into an apartment building before leaving the parking lot. The victim hid the knife and later showed it to police, who said that the knife matched the wound on his knee.

Cuello was charged with aggravated assault and drinking alcohol in a vehicle, per the affidavit. The police determined this incident to be a domestic violence case.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
