The San Francisco Police Department said officers responded at 1:59 a.m. to the area of Sunset Boulevard and Rivera Street after being alerted to a crash involving two occupied vehicles, according to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. The struck vehicle contained three adults, who were all taken to nearby hospitals, said police. Two victims in that car sustained non-life-threatening injuries while a third occupant suffered life-threatening injuries, DA Jenkins confirmed in a news release.
The two occupants of the vehicle — that is suspected to have caused the crash — sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to local hospitals. The suspected driver, identified as Ryan Kwong, 28, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody by San Francisco police.
The DA’s office said Mr. Kwong is charged with four counts of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, four counts of driving under the influence of alcohol with a .08% blood alcohol concentration causing injury, and three counts of reckless driving causing injury.
There are several allegations in the criminal complaint including that Kwong was driving at excessive speed recklessly, that his blood alcohol concentration was greater than .15%, and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury on the victims, said the DA’s office.
Despite charges being filed, this remains an active case. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with “SFPD.”
